Best biscuit in the world?
Posted by: nini on 15 June 2007
As I sit here munching on one, it occurs to me that Arnotts Mint Slices are, quite possibly, the best biscuit in the world.
I know I should have made a distiction between sweet and savoury biscuits, but it's really no contest for me unless a third party medium is included i.e. cheese.
I used to be partial to Fig Rolls when we lived in the UK, but I think the particularly fine Mint Slices takes the...erm...biscuit for me.
(Is a Fig Roll considered sweet or savoury?)
Your thoughts gentlemen (& ladies) please.
I thank you...
Regards, Jon

McVities' Fruit n' Spice had no equal back in the day...

Fig rolls mmmmmmm. Not allowed them any more ,neither another favourite Garibaldi.
I quite like original Ryvita with a bit of cheddar. Cheeselets were really nice and then they "improved" them, and guess what they didn't.
I'm sure some one will post about their handmade oat stove cakes made with hand picked oats by a peasant in outer Mongolia and only £54 for 100gms.

...Except a plain digestive. Or on highdays and holidays, a jammy dodger.

For sheer decadence I like Bahlsen Biscuits
http://www.bahlsen.co.uk/
when I was a demonstrator at CeBit one year the stand I was performing on supplied plates of the chocolate biscuits along with an av demo that included the Vangelis variant of Bladerunner
and for every day indulgence - Anzac biscuits.
And talking of biscuits - I had a tour of the United Biscuits distribution centre near Ashby de la Zouch a few years back = most interesting - WiFi connected fork lift trucks.

Do Tunnock's Teacakes count? Too... cakey? They don't travel well, sadly.
Toksik - are you *really* in Waterfoot?

Now we're getting a bit too creative....if we're talking biscuit recipes then you can't beat a KitKat sandwich. Only white buttered bread though.

I was first introduced to those particular delights by my wife's gran in Penicuik 16 years ago and now they are my favourites too. I also have a particular fondness for garibaldi.

But did you ever have biscuit nirvana - the chocolate garibaldi. They made them in the mid 70's for about a year and then stopped. Wonderful, I have never had a better biscuit ever...except maybe fig rolls which I used to eat by the packet.
Don't eat biscuits anymore - they aren't like they used to be

I would normally have to go with the Tunnocks tea cake...but it is a cake. Classed as such by the government...no VAT because of the classification.

You can't beat a Little Schoolboy, Lu's Petit Ecolier in dark and light.
Chocolate digestives are a close second though.

Co-op Digestives. The larger packs is 46 pence, while the small [half size version] is 45! With butter as Willy suggests these are something even more incredibly fine. I eat the whole pack as a treat, but all too rarely.
Next is the Garibaldi! Then McVitties Ginger Nuts! Even better dunked in real coffee. Better than all these were the Ginger Nuts my mother used to make, but then she also used to make real toffee, which required a toffee hammer to make suckable pieces! You could not chew it.
Custard creams no longer seems as smooth and creamy as they used to be...
Ought to be, but cannot manage to be, fat, Fredrik
