Family Guy trounces the Simpsons

I think it's far far funnier, and the animation's better. Blows Matt Groening's good but rather overrated creation out of the water.
Family Guy also has less merchandise and hype surrounding it. Which is a good thing.

Simpsons has been going for around 15 years.
End of argument.

Too long perhaps?
Fawlty Towers lasted 12 episodes. Last Of The Summer Wine has been going since '72.
End of argument(?)
Only Fools & Horses went on far too long too.

Kevin, The simpsons really hit song at around season 3-4 (IMO) and would agree that brand new episodes are far to sporadic to really merit, Its like they took a bunch of those fridge magnet words and randomly arranged them and then had to make an episode from it.
My point however is this. You are comparing a relatively new and fresh cartoon to one that has been going years. Whether simpsons should still be going is neither here nor there. Its now part of popular culture and cannot by its nature be young and fresh. So comparing it to Family guy is difficult.
If both came out at the same time, then I would say that Family Guy would probably win for an adult audience.
However it did not, and probably owes its success to The Simpsons in terms of a popular Cartoon for adults.
Where the Simpsons wins hands down is that it can do the gay thing, do the race thing, do the poor parenting (And great parenting) thing, and also mix in all current affairs and take the piss out of films, and throw it at an any age population at any time of the day and still make it work.
Family guy, is nieche market, late night adult thing. If it had to be for prime time kids TV as well it would be a shite programme.
