Amazon

Anybody ordered anything from Amazon lately?
I've used them regularly but of late the delivery is just so slow. I don't know if they're trying to force you into the "Amazon Prime" method of delivery. If they are it hasn't worked with me - I think I'll plump for Play.com from now on.
Unless of course you guys know any better sites........
regards,
Steve

Yes. Ordered Friday afternoon and delivered as promised today. Walcha playing Bach's Art Of Fugue, on CDs issued by DG.

I guess if you are using super saver delivery then it is going to take a while. I used super saver a few weeks back and it arrived in a day. But something that was sent over the weekend super saver has not arrived yet.

I did the free prime trial in January and I was highly impressed with it. Not only do they ship first class for next day delivery but they also prioritise getting it out the door in a matter of minutes as I was finding. Problem with it was that I just kept one clicking away knowing that goods would be on the doormat next morning - what they want of course but even with my regular buying habits, sales increased! If you value good service, which I do, then prime is well worth it and I will probably turn it on soon.

You can try hmv.com - free shipping but in my experience that is as slow or slower than super saver. play.com, for my musical tastes is amateurish so have never looked at them seriously.

So far I'm a very happy Prime customer.

I was thinking they're getting a little slower with super saver delivery lately. I ordered a couple of cds two weekends ago: one from Amazon arrived Thursday, one from Play at least a day earlier.

I tried Prime on a free month's trial a while ago and it was a disaster as everything has to be signed for. Err, we're not home. Towards the end of the trial, I even asked them if they could send something snail mail instead. No chance.

I worked it out - if you order early in the day it goes Royal Mail - no signature required with the postman. If you order later in the day they courier it to you to make sure you get it next day (provided you are at home), signature required.

Prime is good. Yes I probably buy more, but I also save when I don't add something else to get past the free supersaver mark. And you can add four family members for free.

I always get them to send it first class, not the default delivery. That way it may take a day longer, but they don't need a signature, and if it doesn't fit through the letterbox I can collect from the local post office.

I don't know what happens when I order using one-touch buying on my iPhone's Amazon app, but everything arrives soon enough. 2 to three days at most.

I'm more annoyed by their increasing switch to non-Royal Mail delivery firms. RM depot is half a mile away, it's a pain to get to some of the other courier depots.

Personally I use super saver and never had much of a prob with it.

Like Tony, one touch buying seems to get reasonable results. Sometimes it takes longer but three working days usually. Tomorrow I have to be at the PO Distribution Depot to pick up the other order, which was too big for the letter box! Six am rise then ... but still easier on a bike than in a car across Worcester centre!

It's not really relevant as I am not in the UK, but Amazon Prime in Japan really is excellent. For the Princely sum of 3900 Yen a year (just under 30 quid)if you order before 8:30 or 12:30, depending on the item they will deliver the same evening before 9PM. Never been let down once in 3 years of using it.

I never realised how good the Royal Mail was until I moved to Canada. Amazon Mail is pretty slow here. I think it is because everything comes from the States.

Not necessarily, Amazon have a place they ship from in Mississauga, Ontario. So for the longest time, the free shipping would reach me the next day anyways. Then i think they programmed a delay in the processing. It seemed as though they sat on the order for a day or two and then shipped it if I went for the free option.

Also, I agree with the Canada Post Royal Mail comparison. In Canada we don't have 1st or 2nd class postage. The only service is equivalent to 3rd class. A locally mailed letter will reach it's recipient in 5 to 10 days.

Amazon is the best.

The pound is so weak that I can buy things cheaper here than I could in the UK. I place an order at the weekend. The VAT gets taken off. Postage gets added that is less than the VAT. The package arrives on Friday. I don't get charged local VAT.

I am happy.

Over time Amazon has become my first point of call due to the consistently high standard of service.
I always use the super saver option - basically because it puts amazon on a level playing field with the other retailers who offer free delivery.
I ordered 5 CD's last Tuesday (10th March) two from amazon and three from play.com. I received e-mails from both the next day telling me the items bad been shipped. I got the CD's from play.com on Friday and am yet to receive the amazon ones.
I'm wondering if play.com should become my new first choice....
Regards,
Steve.

I find that whatever I order turns up broadly in line with the due date. There have been a couple of exceptions over the years, but they have been few and far between.

Cheers

I'm ordering at all times of the day and never had to sign for a single package - well, maybe the wife did.
