McCartney/Golddigger Judgement

Posted by: Diccus62 on 17 March 2008

I liked this blog from a Guardian contributor.....

Lets do some simple maths here -

Sir Pauls £400m asset/worth...

- if put in a basic saving account...

for example - Abbey online saving account currently paying out 6.25% interest...

will earn him roughly about £24,000,000 a year which is almost...

exactly what was allegedly awarded to him ex-wife Ms Mills.

- uncanny!

Sir Paul only really lost 1 years interest!

or

if you want to look at it in another way...

Sir Paul will only need 1 year to get it all back!

Seems like everybody has bought the PR hook, line and sinker. Sir Paul can afford the best though - so it's no wonder.

Ha Ha Ha. That is really funny.

I expect it was his age, accent and working class background that attracted La Mills was it? Not the fact that he was a wealthy pop star, no sir.

Ha Ha.

Tell us another, Deane you're on a (t)roll.

Regards,

Steve

PS - Imagine (sic) she had done it to a popular Beatle?

Oh come on - the whole thread is a troll. Or do I have to agree with everybody to avoid being pinned with that label?

I don't like the Beatles and I don't live in the UK. I have no emotional attachment to the legend status of British pop singers. Viewing the matter simply on the facts of the case - that a court awarded the ex-wife 24 million pounds - it would seem that no matter what you think of her, the court on a fairly exhaustive examination of the arguments of both parties concluded that she ought to get something from the marriage.

Beatle or not - he married her. I have no doubt whatsoever that he took very expensive legal advice before he did. Why the sympathy for the bugger?

I don't think there is an overdose of sympathy for him under normal circumstances. She has managed to create quite a lot of what there is. No mean achievement, given that he does usually tend to divide opinion.

You could say the media were against her - but they were pushing against an open door. She had plenty of "form" as a fantasist and publicity seeker well before the marriage. She has got a sizable settlement, which I assume reflects more on the needs of the child involved. However, I have little confidence that we have heard the last of La Mills, and no doubt the poor bloody kid will be focussed on as a result.

As for Macca, well the judge recorded what he thought. I would just add that he successfully (with Linda) raised what appears to be happy family largely outside of the media's attentions. Needless to say, the tragic loss of his wife and soulmate was probably the only way this sorry saga was ever going to arise. To that extent, he certainly has my sympathy.

I am a Beatles fan and some of his subsequent solo stuff. However, I won't forgive him for "The Frog Chorus", "Mull of Sodding Kintyre" or that crap with Wacko Jacko.

I quite liked Say Say Say at the time.

Edit: here it is, with Jackson at least, at his peak. Has a certain poignancy watching the smiling faces in this video today...

Hee hee heee

I was about nine, that's my excuse.

Oh dear, another bad memory. I had the turgid "Girl is Mine" in mind.

Yep, both guilty as charged on that one!

I hesitate to post again on such a bad-tempered thread, but I feel compelled to say...

Ebony and Ivory
Live together in perfect harmony,
Side by side on my piano keyboard,
Oh lord, why don't we?

I was concerned about the amount of venom, and the lack of reasoned comment on this thread. Your last post starts to redress the balance, so thanks for taking the time to elaborate. Not to say I agree with you, as I simply have no sense of what a reasonable settlement might look like in in such extreme circumstances. In truth, I haven't paid the case a lot of attention, as it is entirely irrelevant to my life.

Actually, the comment that triggered my post was not one of yours. "It would have been cheaper to hire a hooker", smacks of thinly veiled misogyny, and has no place on this forum, in my view.

Nigel

No worries Nigel we all have our opinions, I find the whole thing fascinating.

I would always pick Heather over Paul;
whatever H may have done,
nothing is worse than inflicting the singing & music of Linda McCartney on the world!

I'm also a Beatles fan but look at things from the other direction. While I don't care for much of his solo stuff (although it's not all been mince) his good stuff far, far outweighs the dross. I can easily forgive and forget his musical indiscretions because he's been responsible for some of the most beautiful music ever written.

We are agreeing, Tom. Smile

Who can say they have lived, if there have been no (minor) indiscretions?
