Help me with MS Outlook address book

Posted by: Rasher on 02 November 2006

I've moved from Office 2000 to Office XP as I had a copy that I never got around to installing before, and now I have a slight irritation with my address book when sending an email. I open a new mail message and click To: in the normal way to get the Select Names box where I get my addresses from Contacts, but now I get multiple entries for each person, the others being Fax numbers, so I have to scroll across to ensure I'm not sending to anything other than an email address.
I've tried to make the fax numbers hidden, but can't find how to do it. Any ideas?

Hi Rasher
A quick search suggests two solution:

1. The blindingly obvious one is delete all fax numbers - but I guess that is not useful!
2. Put a letter in front of the fax number (B for business, H for home). Outlook will not show fax numbers that start with a letter.

If you put "hide fax numbers in Outlook XP" into Google the first thing you see are a load of people selling utilities to do this. The recommended one seems to be RSOutlook but that's $10.

I can't believe that there is no other solution, but like you I cannot see one. Oh, except use Thunderbird!
