Andy,

Chips are like adding a power supply to your speakers. They are manditory on any wood floor. Cheap and highly recommended.

Ok speaking from a position of complete ignorance here, having never heard them, I've got to say I'm very sceptical about the chips.

I suspect they do make a subtantial differance in some systems compaired to nothing, but what is the differance compaired to a similar sized coin?. There is no rocket science in the Chips they are simply a milled piece of metal (aluminium?). And for what they are I would certainly not say they are cheap.

Andy,

Not convinced that the considerable outlay would be worth it, I loaned a set from a friendly dealer, and was amazed. I'd had a slight boom problem which I was trying to address, and they pretty much sorted that out, but then they did so so much more.

Expensive for what they are, but for me great value in the context of the overall system. I went straight back to get more for the rack.

BTW I'm on a wooden floor, and I changed from Linn Skeets to the Chips, under Kabers. I think they're likely to be something that produces varying results in different systems and rooms, although I've only read good things about them.

Anyway, after that some local swine brought a pair of Mana soundbases round and then it all went tits up...... Big Grin

What's the difference between chips and Michell tendercups which cost a very small fraction of the price? Surely nothing.

Having said that I'm having trouble finding tendercups at the moment.

Do chips work on carpets?

They have for me under a fraim..... carpet ontop of parquet floor over concrete.

On day when the fitted carpet wears out I'll resurrect the parquet floor

£120 ?
Bloody hell! For four?

Oh..that's not so bad then I suppose. £15 each. Eek Still expensive.

Slates are going well thanks (just posted up picture on "system pics" thread). I'm getting used to it again and have a whole Saturday this weekend at home alone to listen, slob out for the day and generally play around. Soundbases may have to go on just to see what happens.

Are most of the above comments pertaining to use with racks or speakers? Any experience with SBL's and quadraspire, specifically? (I'm using Linn Skeets and trying to decide if it's worth changing to chips).

Reason I asked about fraim chips was I need to put my hi-cap on the mdf part of my soundbase once the 282 and XPS2 arrive.
I was wondering if it was worthwhile further isolating the hi-cap by putting cones etc under it as it would no longer be living on a glass mana shelf. Its only a temporary thing until we make a decision re which way to go re Fraim or another Mana rack...

Neil,

I changed from Skeets to Chips. Major improvement. The difference seems to be that with the Skeets, the speakers aren't actually resting on the tips of the spikes, but instead the Skeets actually surround or cup the spike. Try them.......
