John Martyn News
Posted by: Simon Matthews on 03 July 2003
Saw two lines in this months Uncut stating that John Martyn has had an operation to remove a leg.
This is gutting, I wish him a speedy recovery.
Can anybody shed any light on this. I had a quick surf and found no additional info.

Hi Simon
I just did some googling and found that he has, due to circulation problems.
"You could read on John Hillarby's website that early April John was committed to hospital in order to have surgery. His right leg had to be amputated below the knee, which news came as a shock to many fans. The operation went very well though and two months after the fact the message is that John has been allowed to leave the hospital and is living back home."
I hadn't heard of this til now either.

Thanks Anna.
So glad to hear that he is recovering.
This man has provided so much pleasure, emotion, intelligence and spirit over the years that I can't thank him enough.

Hi
I received news via e-mail from John's website that unfortunately he had been involved in a serious car crash which resulted in the loss of a leg. I too love his music and songs and wish him a speedy recovery.
Regards
Jim

This is very sad news. John Martyn is a genius. I listened to "The church" a few days ago. His version of "Death don't have no mercy" goes places most music can only dream of. I wish him well.

Poor John. Butlets not get too down. We haven't lost him, and he will be fine. You all sound like he died.
I want to make a comment about having seen him legless many times before, but I won't because its in bad taste.
I love his music and I love the grumpy old bastard too. Let's be grateful he survived and trust that he will be with us for many years yet.
Let's all go out and get the albums we don't have, give him our support, and have an excuse to go shopping again.
Lots of love to him.
