Summer begins tomorrow....

All across the district tomorrow morning a motley collection will be searching for their cricket kit at the start of the local league.
Boots will be mouldy, grass still wrapped around the rusted studs. Whites will have been forgotten, unwashed at the back of the wardrobe.
The bumbling greybeard will start his 32nd season, and continue to take frequent unsuspecting scalps with his deadly off-breaks. The keen 19yr old whippet will streak in and bowl half-way down the pitch until he realises that it never bounces until late August at the ealriest (if he is lucky). Creaky mid-lifers like me will discover aches and pains they were sure they never had last year and be unable to walk after 6 overs, let alone bowl any more. Everybody will grumble about the cold.
In the end fun will be had, the umpire will fall asleep in the tea interval and the mower will break, the pub will open just as the rain comes down and the cricket season will officially have started again. Great, one of the best days of the year.
If you are pulling on your whites this weekend too, have a good one.
