Who wants Fred Simon 'Since Forever' on vinyl?!
Posted by: Simon Drake on 16 June 2009
Guys,
If I can find 200 forum users who would buy Fred Simon's 'Since Forever' from us on double 180gm vinyl, then I'll do all Fred Simon fans a favour and get it mastered, cut, stamped, pressed and packaged especially for you on nice thick black wax!
This is serious now...I'll be spending a lot of my pocket money on this. Opt in below! (no time wasters please!)

Fred who owns the rights to your album?
If you wanted to press a few hundred on vinyl could you do it??If you wanted??
Hi Stu,
While I hold the copyright on the musical compositions, Naim owns the rights to the recording itself, so it's up to them.
Hope you're enjoying the CD!
All the best,
Fred

I've never heard it, but I'd take one on vinyl. That would make it my first purchase of an LP in over 25 years! Might even try to see if Fred would sign it for me to mark the momentous event.
But are we to assume from Simon Drake's posting above that this isn't going to happen now?

You might get a few dozen to sign up at the BBQ next Friday - worth a try?

Count me in.

Count me in. I just started looking into the Naim Label a couple of months ago when my Supernait arrived. The CDs are superb and the vinyl is even better. Antonio's album with Sabrina is just magical. I bought a couple of Fred Simon CDs yesterday: 'Dreamhouse' and 'Since Forever'. The former has been in my system non-stop since yesterday evening. This morning, I played it in the car while driving to work. At this moment, it is playing on my PC via its DVD Rom drive. I just regret that I did not discover Fred Simon earlier. If 'Since Forever' is even half as good as 'Dreamhouse', it will be worth every penny. Just cannot wait to get home to listen to it tonight.
Fred Simon: Thank you for the beautiful music.

Irwan, thanks so much for your gracious comments ... very gratifying. No regrets ... it's never too late to discover Fred Simon. I think you'll dig Since Forever too ... rather than half as good, it may actually be twice as good! (insert emoticon here) Please let us know what you think of it.
All the best,
Fred

Well, Stu, we're closing in on a quarter of the way there ... after the album is released in the USA and Canada on Sept. 8 we'll hopefully get a few more. Maybe we'll have enough a year from now!
Thanks for your enthusiastic persistence.
All best,
Fred

Fred Simon: I listened to 'Since Forever' last night and early this morning. Loved it. Beautiful melodies brought to life by superb arrangements and musicianship. Looking forward to owning it on vinyl. Just cannot wait to get home tonight to listen to it again. However there is something magical about 'Dreamhouse'. I still have it in my car.
By the way, I have also placed an order for 'Remember the River' both on CD and vinyl. The wait for it to arrive via post is going to kill me!

Fred,
Are you gigging it over there around October??
Stu
Trying to, Stu ... difficult to coordinate schedules and secure funding. Would love to, obviously.
All best,
Fred

Thank you so much, Irwan ... very gratifying. Glad you're enjoying Since Forever, and hopefully with a few more listenings it will reveal its magic as well. I hope you dig Remember the River, too.
All the best,
Fred

Nice idea! Any chance to see Acoustic Mania on vinyl?

Fred Simon: Finally managed to find some time for some extended listening to 'Remember the River' which I purchased on both CD and vinyl. I like the music just as much as I like 'Since Forever'. However, I do listen more to the vinyl as I prefer the sound as compared to CD playback (i.e. much warmer. I hope 'Since Forever' will be available on vinyl too!). However the CD is convenient as I listen to it while I drive to and from work (sadly though, this is on a non-Naim system. Will Naim ever make available for sale to the public, the ICE system which is built into the Bentley's?) Naim CDs are great, but Naim vinyl is out of this world.
Having said all of that, I have to confess that 'Dreamhouse' is still my favourite Fred Simon album ... sorry! Although I like 'Since Forever' and 'Remember the River' a lot, there is something special about 'Dreamhouse'. I cannot put my finger as to what it is ... something intangible ... magical? I list it among my favourite albums of all time, which includes, (in no particular order): 1.Miles Davis' 'Round 'Bout Midnight', 2.John Coltrane's 'Ballads', 3.John Maclaughlin's 'Que Alegria', 4.Wayne Shorter's 'Speak No Evil', 5.Dexter Gordon's 'Our Man in Paris', 6. Dave Grusin's Soundtrack for 'Fabulous Baker Boys', 7. Marvin Gaye's 'What's Going On?', 8. Steely Dan's 'Aja', 9. Donald Fagen's 'The Nightfly', 10. Miles Davis' 'In Stockholm', 11. Herbie Hancock's Soundtrack for 'Round Midnight', 12. Pat Metheny's 'Questions and Answers', 13. Stanley Jordan's 'Live in New York', 14. Christian McBride's 'Number Two Express', 15. Trilok Gurtu's 'Glimpse', 16. Michael Brecker's 'Don't Try This At Home', 17. Anita Baker's 'Sweet Love', 18. McCoy Tyner's 'Infinity', 19. Joshua Redman's 'Live At The Village Vanguard', 20. Monteiro, Young and Holt, 'Live At The Montreux Jazz Festival' and 21. Take 6's 'Take 6'.
