This week I sent my novel to publishers...

Yep, some of my friends here will know that I am a struggling writer and I have finally sent off the first three chapters of my novel to various publishers.

Here's an excert...

quote:
Chapter One

Sometimes when I’m asked about my past I can only conjure it vaguely, my eyes have been gift wrapped in a rose tinted handkerchief, enshrouding my memories with the comfort of time served. On these occasions I can only provide a general overview of my life, a short synopsis illuminating salient points and condemning secrets to the dark. Other times I can command details to appear as if by magic, definitions so devout that darkness itself takes shape and the past is resurrected before my Judas eyes. And sometimes my memory releases its burden episodically, a staccato movie with each frame bringing the past closer until the two halves of the handkerchief are once again joined and I wrap my arms around the sun.
But I can always remember the day my salvation began, the day my mother killed me.

Now I finish the rest of the book and wait.

Congratulations!

Now await the rejections. Big Grin

Seriously, Good luck!!

You're gone directly to publishers rather than agents?

I have gone to publishers direct as I am already published and I have won several poetry comps, short story comps etc...so hoping to represent myself and save a few £'s

One of my recent poems for any fans of Whitman...

quote:
For Walt…

Critics to come! Professors, reviewers, hacks to come!
Not to write yourself, and answer what are you for?
But you, a new cancer, impotent, jealous, leech, more vicarious than before,
Critique, critique-for you must justify your existence-you must dissect.

I myself but write ‘the cat sat on the mat’,
I can only write what I know, exhuming the lesson from the pain.

I am a man who, typing away, never questioning my motive, reads a casual comment from you
Who
Writes nothing new,
Leaving it to me to employ and to feed you,
Expecting everything from me.

and I'm currently working on...

quote:
Humanity burns; seeping, weeping, creeping through the black crack barrier between anon, no-one, chosen one, come on, someone; weakest at the bottom of a bottle; humanity burns.

Good luck Voltaire. I hope to see your book on the 'what book are you reading' thread before too long.

Do you have a day job?

Morning Adam,

as it is my writing which has earned me the £4000 I'm about to invest in new Naim equipment, you could say my day job is keeping you in a job... Razz
