Desert Island CD

If you had to take Just One CD to listen to over and over, on a desert island where you would remain for a year, what would it be?

If it must be such a torture i say i'm bringing nothing.
I'll whistle all the time.

There must be one you would like! What would you do once the 'whistle' had dried up???

On a desert island?

In these games I always assume that complete works of Half Man Half Biscuit are there by default - just like on the real DID.

I'll forgo the Shakespeare because all he ever did was string together a load of famous phrases and quotations - If music be the food of love then you're the indigestion is taken straight from a HMHB song.

The Beatles, 1

...and I'd ration it.

Yes, if you really had only 1 disc. A nightmare of a prospect but this would be a great choice.

Joy Division - Heart and Soul, because if you are all alone you might as well be properly pissed-off.

Jono

PS the booklet would also give you something to read as well.

Crikey, that's a tough one. A very shortlist would be Beethoven's 9th, a Mozart Requiem, Beatles 1, a Best of the Beach Boys, J.J. Cale Anthology or a compilation of the best bits of "I'm Sorry I Haven't a Clue". I'd put them in a sack close my eyes and take a lucky dip!

The Smashing Pumpkins; Mellon Collie and Infinate Sadness.

Mainly because;

A: Its a brilliant (and varied) work of twisted genius.

B: Its a double album. Winker

C: It goes from a whisper to a scream - so i could choose something to suit my mood as and when...

D: The title seems very apt...

E: It seemed like a good idea at the time - though i should probably have chosen Jeff Buckley's (amazing) 'Grace'.

Boring, but entirely serious answer: Helmut Walcha's performance of Bach's Goldberg Variations on EMI [currently on French EMI though more than forty years old as a recording], and for just one piece for me that more than any is the one that combines the serious, the sublimated, and the purely exhuberantly joyful in music - though not necessarily the first choice for for many I am sure !

I'm changing thread.
15 are better than only one!

I'm sorry, but I did'nt refresh my screeen for a while, so I did'nt notice your thread before putting on mine . . . . fun enough, we had about the same idea in about the same time . . . anyway, my answer to you, would be Beethoven violin concert, Oistrakh - Cluytens, His Master's Voice, but the vynil, not the cd, since the cd was artificially put on stereo, from the original mono, with (in my view) audible bad results.

Yes, Gianluigi, you are right; but only being able to take one CD makes one think about the decision more! and in the process helps me choose some obviously good albums to buy!!

Cheers,

No problem Andrea, It will be interesting to see the two responses anyway - All good music should be shared.
