Golden Sovreigns :

Being a Cockney bastard I should really know this (sorry Deanne musn't swear I know)but I'm reading an intersting book at the moment about the British Civil Service (written in 1937 a Novel) and it mentions that the lowest of the low even were paid in brand new minted gold sovreigns. I know they are collected ztoday and half & full ones, Voctorian or Georgian fetch pretty hefty prices (many a Cockney likes to wear then as rings etc) I personally hate such
showing-off-manship not really liking gold persay, though I feel it may interst some folk here?
The big question is "what would the value of a sovreign been in 1937", this geezer was getting about 4 month for starters `?

Exactly one soverign. . what did you expect?

You could try something from this list if you are after purchasing power and such like.
