Kate Bush on Vinyl

I love Aerial and the CD copy is an excellent recording.
Having said that, the double vinyl is something extra special. I can forgive the delay because the end result is more than worth the wait. Two beautifully pressed heavy disks that sound fantastic. The Cd booklet is replicated but at full album size and is worth the price alone!
Somebody somewhere decided that this lp was not going to get released as a sub standard apology and as a vinyl head I thank them.

I am lucky to have the best Rd for Vinyl in Europe less than 15 mins from my flat!
Good luck with your pre-xmas post.

Interesting!
I thought the CD sounded realy flat and dull on the first CD - it (to me) doesn't have much life or emotion. Like looking at a picture of a sculpture rather than the sculpture itself.
The second CD on the other hand, whilst not sounding as bad (almost like a different recording standard to the first) is a fantastic piece of music.
Having bought some remaster CD's and appreciating the difference - it's like this CD already needs remastering!!!

A beautiful package of a beautiful album. Receiving this DOUBLE LP gave me a buzz that no CD ever does. You just can't beat the 12 inch format.
How great it would be if every album release was available like this.

All seconded.
It's beautiful and sounds amazing...
Worth the wait indeed.

You almost get the feeling that Kate stamped her foot down and decided that her fan base was not going to get the raw deal as is so often the case with afterthought vinyl releases.
The most rewarding musical purchase of the year for me. I worship at the church of Kate. With a new Fagan and Josh rouse one early next year things arn't so bad.

Hmm maybe I was unlucky - side one fine, side two is horribly noisy, and side four has two labels, one stuck on way off centre over the runout groove.
Back to HMV....

Picked up vinyl copy today whilst shopping for Christmas gifts in HMV. The is the first "new" vinyl I have bought for many a year, although I do purchase quite a lot second hand. I also bought a copy on cd for a family member, but there is simply no comparison between the tactile qualities of the two. Even the wife got excited about the beautifully produced booklet.
Sounds mighty fine too.

To counteract my grumpy post above...
The replacement copy is fine - gorgeous sounding vinyl. A bunch of friends were amazed to see new vinyl still available. And the booklet is first class.
Happy christmas,
Ian

I agree. I think there is a problem with the CD's packaging too. Whilst I admire it's innovation, it seems to me that the playing surface of the discs are certain to get scratched as they are pulled in and out of the slot, however careful you are.

Isn't this bloody annoying? A couple of Floyd offerings and the audio CDs in Rush's R30 are in slots.I just transfer them to suitable CD cases.

OK, OK, I give up.
I just ordered Aerial yesterday after all the positive things I've read about it on this Forum. I hope I won't be disappointed - my only other Kate Bush album is a 20+ year old "Lioheart" LP!

You won't be disappointed - Aerial is a great album - even if I do only have the CD version.

I pushed the boat out and bought Kate’s album and Goldfrapp’s Supernature on vinyl yesterday in HMV during my lunch hour. I gleefully opened up the bag on getting home and was struck by the huge difference in quality between the two products.
The finish and presentation of Kate’s album reassures you that you have made a good buy – even before you play the album. Goldfrapp’s offering disappointed from the outset with a very cheap and shoddy gatefold cover and a seriously warped record. The Goldfrapp vinyl is going back today, and I might just replace it with the CD. The moral of the story is to open up the albums in store and reject any that look bad there and then.
Tonight’s intended delight is to have an inaugural listen to Kate. I am anticipating a good experience based on the feedback in this thread. Fingers crossed.

Oh Dis donc TM-P,
So it's a kind of "all the gear, no idea" type thing - at least the presentation of the overall package looks the part. I will have a listen tonight and hope for the best but from the sounds of it I may be having another chat with HMV.
At lunchtime the HMV dude wouldn't believe the Goldfrapp album was warped until he put it on his tt and saw his tonearm being very athletic.
Cheers
Brad

Mike,
You are right - that track does crackle a lot, which is a great pity as on first listen the album souinds like it will grow on me. I think I may well wait for the EMI re-press you mention.

I see on the HMV website the price of Aerial has gone down to £11.99 for the vinyl.
Ive stopped buying new vinyl as have been fed up with poor pressings, warps and the like.

Just picked up replacement copy today from HMV with a "Made in Holland" sticker on the back, that the previous pressing did not have.
Whilst an improvement on the previous pressing, there is still a problem with last track on side 2 ( A Coral Room) but not in the same places, and the first track of side 3 (Prelude).
Anybody else still struggling to get a decent copy on vinyl?
Nic
