sharp 42 xd1e lcd

have looked at the above lcd screen, and noticed if i use my x-box 360 via componet to the vga input, would have to plug my n-vi into HDMI socket via DVI to HDMI lead, but i also remember reading that mike said he prefered his n-vi via component into his sharp lcd, if this is so what would be the best way around this, as i am sure the sharp lcd does not have a seperate component input.

Speak to Mike concerning this. You should be able to connect via component output on n-Vi to VGA (Input5 = PC = DB15) on the screen, given the correct lead.
DVI is not always the best way to go from n-Vi. On some screens component/RGB gives a better representation over DVI.

AV@naim, thanks for the reply, does that mean i will still have a connection for my x-box 360.

John, if you have not done your screen purchase, just want to tell you, I have had quite a bad experience with a Sharp 42 inches LCD screen. It is maybe not the same as the one you are refering to (it was NTSC only, doesn't even accept a PAL signal...), but the one i have seen was terrible, the N-Vi was a waste of money on it. Not sharp at all, impossible to calibrate, white balance completely off.
Check the picture before purchasing, or i hope it is not the same serie.

Manu, thanks for the reply, have read lots of good things about the set, have also read a few people have had banding problems, not made my mind up yet, just one to consider, on balance i still slightly prefer plasma, but big differance in price for full hd, apart from any thing else wifey hasn't agreed to me buying anything at the moment.

if you ever find a LCD display and you just slightly prefer plasma over it, buy this LCD.
IMO the differences are HUGE in favor to the plasma at that size and up. Yes, heavier and more expensive, but...so much better.
The wife may accept you spend more, she was probalbly not convinced by the LCDs she has seen.

John, would I be right in thinking that you already own the Xbox?
On my 37 inch version of the screen there is a conflict (currently) between the DVI output of the n-Vi and the screen - although I can see a crystal clear picture, it's slightly skewed to one side.
The reason I use the VGA/Component input on this screen is not JUST because I get a centred picture, but also because the clarity of the image is greater on this output.
I'm currently considering getting an Xbox360, and realise your quandary... I see 3 options for me (which may also work for you).
1) Connect the xbox via RGB Scart
2) Buy a 2 in, 1 out VGA switching box, and run them both on the same input
Like this....
3) Hold fire until the new Xbox360 elite - in it's gloriously Naim-like colour scheme,
reaches Uk and shove that into one of the HDMI sockets, leaving the n-Vi on the VGA Component.
Of course, Naim may find the solution to the problems on certain Sharp screens in the near future, but in the meantime I'm utterly delighted with my screen and n-Vi and nothing I could imagine would make me want to veer away from this combination at present.
Hope this helps.
Mike
