The moment we have all been waiting for. Only took 42 years. Big Grin

VATICAN CITY (Reuters) – The Vatican's newspaper has finally forgiven John Lennon for declaring that the Beatles were more famous than Jesus Christ, calling the remark a "boast" by a young man grappling with sudden fame.

Seems like a well judged if tardy response to an exhuberant, rather than especially offensive remark!

I would rather see a tardy response than none.

john always seemed to have sarcasm and tart sense of humor in his comments. The album burning at the time was reactionary but probably sold more albums in the long run.

There was a good film on John's legal woes with the US, especially Nixon, and he won. Well worthwhile seeing.

It's always astounded me that it's been so difficult for people to understand what Lennon meant ... it was a lament, not a boast. He thought it was ridiculous that The Beatles were more popular than Jesus.

Well, I guess fundamentalists (not to mention The Vatican), by definition, are not exactly masters of irony.
