AVG 8.5 auto update.

You may want to watch out for this.
I believe that some time ago AVG offered me this update and made a minor install - followed by a message that it would perform the full update in around 20 days - possibly to stagger demand on their servers.
AVG also made it enormously easy to download the pay for version - by mistake.
This unexpected message worried me but I left things as they were for a few days. After an inelegant shutdown I asked the machine to schedule a disk check on next re-boot. Since then every boot flashed up:
checking file system on C:
The type of the file system is NTFS.
Cannot open volume for direct access.
Windows has finished checking the disc.
.......
access to C: appeared to be dog slow and the machine generally felt sluggish. I downloaded 8.5 direct from FileHippo but the problem persisted.
I had thought that this was the beginning of a fatal problem with my HD and looked to various (extreme) solutions - pretty much deciding to reinstall Windows - probably involving a reformat and loss of settings, etc.
Instead I uninstalled AVG and, since then, all seems to work as per usual. I haven't re-installed 8.5 for the moment.
Has anyone else experienced this?
