Beatles Mono Box Set £100 at HMV

Posted by: Martin M on 23 August 2010

FYI, the stereo and mono Beatles boxsets are available in store at HMV for £100. They had about 5 of the mono set in stock in Southampton on Saturday. The mono is a nice set btw...

I got one at Bluewater, really nice. Didn't see any more though.

Goodness, I paid much, much more for mine on the initial release!

Is this still the Japanese-pressed mono set, with the replica sleeves? If so, rush out and buy it while you can. Quite exquisite, in every respect.

That's a great deal on the mono set.

I'd like one of these but no HMV near. Frown

Is this is a one-off sale price, as on the website they are asking £199?

Thanks,

Rod

That's a great deal on those box sets. The mono set with the replica sleeves is a thing of beauty. The quality of presentation is so much better than the stereo box. When they were first released I couldn't decide between mono and stereo ... ended up getting both! The 24-Bit version is really good if you have a DAC. It's quite an improvement over the 16-Bit CDs.

Has anyone heard the remixes that Giles Martin did for the Beatles Rock Band game? I love his remix of Rubber Soul!

Rod,

it's a one-off apparently. According to the shop assistant, they bought a lot of these box sets in - and then sales taled-off. Note also, that the Mono box set is a limited edition (albeit seemingly limited to how may they could sell), so perhaps we're getting close to that point.

Cheers

I picked up a mono one at my local hmv too. They also had a couple of Stereo left at £100.

HMV have some absolute bargains in their Clearout offer. Loads of BluRay & CD's from about £3 !.

Thanks Martin for the info.

Unfortunately none left in the 2 shops in Croydon. What a bummer!

Cheers,
Rod

It's on amazon for £99.99 if that helps anyone.

Sad to hear HMV scaling down - end of an era really. I popped into my store in Norwich and the CD section was tiny.....

I will treasure the memory of going up the city buying an album and having enough money for a bag of chips and the bus fare home!

....and still have change out of a sixpenny piece?

It would have been the early 80's - albums were £3.99 - fond memories....

Great offer, but the seller is brand new and has no rating history.

which one do you think best stereo or mono?
Posted on: 28 August 2010 by Joe Bibb
I wouldn't. These are bound to appear in 24/96 or better at some stage. I also would want the some of the key albums in mono.

Early impressions to me:

Mono for:

Please Please Me.
With The Beatles.
Hard Day's Night.
Help!
Rubber Soul.
Revolver.
Sgt Pepper (surprisingly so, to me)
Magical Mystery Tour.

Stereo:

Beatles For Sale. (The stereo remaster of this is the joker in the pack to me, it's a corker. The simple 4 track works fine for stereo on this, vocals are not hived off to one side).

The White Album. (Although I could make a case for some tracks in Mono, overall I prefer the Stereo of this one).

Ray,

give Southampton a call. That had a small pile of them a week or so ago.

Many of those are fakes. See the selling history in each case.
