Some powerful ones come to mind:
King Crimson, 21st Century Schizoid Man from In the Court of the Crimson King
Asia, Heat of the Moment from Asia
and something very different:
Webb Wilder and the Beatnecks, How Long Can She Last (Going That Fast) from It Came from Nashville
(And one more vote for Alone Again Or.)

"White Bird" - Its a Beautiful Day
"Yours Is No Disgrace" - Yes Album
"Even Less" - Stupid Dream, Porcupine Tree
First heard "White Bird" in 1969 in an English lesson of all things. Its what got me listening to 'progressive music' and I never looked back. I still play the album regularly.

Davidge, I saw them open for Traffic at the Royal Albert Hall in '70 or '71. They were pretty darned good. I think I first heard them on one of the CBS "Rock Machine" samplers of that era. They were very good indeed.

Chris, wish I had seen them live. The first album, 'Its A Beautiful Day', is IMO brilliant and worth tracking down. It remains one of of my favourite albums even after nearly 40 years. The second album (Marrying Maiden) was totally different comprising a very mixed collection of styles (rock, country, folk, psychedelic and even a track that sounded a lot like Andy Williams!) and not what I expected. Some excellent tracks (particularly 'Soapstone Mountain') but overall not as good as the first album. It all went down hill after that...
