F1 San Marino

Anyone going to the GP this weekend? 1st European meet, always exciting. Sad huh? Never mind.

Schumi and Benetton, rekindled? 8th title?

I'll be watching it on the box for sure. I don't think Ferrari will win, but if Schuey can keep it on the track this time he'll be on the podium and hopefully giving us some of the excitement from last years race.
Of course, Ferrari could always hire me as 2nd driver just so I can ram Alonso off the track..... as he laps me.

What a weekend. Schumi is ....back! But need to see how the next race pans out, if it is a revival or just an anomally. Ferrari, still need lots of work ahead, Renault has a very good car with an equally competent driver. Should be interesting instead of the usual one horse race of the past.

Schumi should say a big thankyou to Pat Simmonds for giving him the win with a pretty poor pit stop timing for Alonso.

Why? In an interview after the race, Symonds didn't think it made any difference.

quote:
Renault engineering director Pat Symonds said: "We had enough fuel to go a little bit further, but we weren't sure if it was much further than them - in fact our timings of the stops indicated it wasn't.
So we decided to get out of Michael's slipstream. We had nothing to lose and perhaps something to gain, but in the end we weren't quick enough on the out lap.

Yes I see him saying "we cocked it up"

I watched the race, thinking that F1 was getting interesting again. From what I saw Schumacher should thank the designers of San Marino GP circuit and his subservient team-mate more than anyone else.

Since it appeared completely impossible to overtake we suddenly saw Massa drop his pace by 3 seconds to hold up Alonso for several laps prior to the first Schumacher pitstop, and then Alonso was unable to overtake Schumacher in the middle of the race despite being 2 seconds a lap quicker. I don't blame Alonso for this, in fact I do not recall a single competitive overtake in the whole race. The combination of circuit and current car design meant the race was decided in the pits and in the stategists computers. The fastest team/car did not win.

I'll remember to forget to watch the next race I think.

Where?

Yep. Exactly what bruce said. If overtaking was more possible, (I thought the italians had a passion for racing?) the outcome would've been quite different, I think.

I think F1 IS getting interesting. But again, we come up against circuts where only errors breakdowns and pit stops wil affect a driver's position. The roles were reversed last year (although ITV viewers were treated to mostly adverts during th scrap), showing that San Marino is at least consistant. But an F1 racing circut it ain't. At least there are now some more circuts in the mix that can put the racing back into F1. But the balance is still tipped the wrong way. Can't seem to stop watching though. Skill is entertaining on any track. But for the most part it's not racing.

Cheers

oh stop being such a "grump"

Oh stop being deluded by the overweening hype that clouds each 'race'! Red Face

On certain tracks it is less a race than a parade.

'Schumi is back' because his team-mate acted like a mobile chicane.

If ya don like it........

One race at a time, I'd say. It's still early in the season. Renault do have a good car and if they had Schumi, F1 will be boring again. So.....there ya go.

Enjoy it, tune of if you don't.

Another win for Schumi Smile. One race at a time!
