1. Grab a calculator. (You won't be able to do this one in your head)
2. Assuming you have a six digit 'phone number, key in the first three digits of your home phone number (NOT the area code)
3 Multiply by 8
4. Add 1
5. Multiply by 250
6. Add the last 3 digits of your phone number
7. Add the last 3 digits of your phone number again.
8. Subtract 250
9. Divide number by 2
Rcognise the answer?

er, no unless it is supposed to be my phone number - which it isn't. Perhaps it works for 6(+) digit phone mumbers only?

Imagine the phone number 123456
So - 123 x 8 = 984
+1 = 985
x 250 = 246250
+456 = 246706
+456 = 247162
-250 = 246912
divide by 2 = 123456

let number be XY ie in 260443 X = 260, Y = 443
Then
[250(8X+1)+2Y]-250 all divided by 2
gives
1000X + Y
= original number.

Not weird enough.
split your phone number in x-y, y are the last 3 digits, x all the other digits.
steps 3-5 yield
((x*8)+1)*250 = x*2000 + 250
then step 6-8 add 2y - 250
you get 2000x+2y
divide by 2...
