The kans are capable of quite a surprising amount of bass for there size and you don't necessarilly have to go active to achieve it. Unfortunately to get the best kind of bass out of Kans in your system would probably require an upgrade of your CD player. Probably a CDX as minimum, but more likely a CDX/XPS. The Kans are very revealing and extremely fussy about the source. If you want to hear Kans do bass, a turntable would probably be a cheaper way of achieving it.
I'm using Kans here and in my (smallish) room they produce so much bass that on a few occasions it's sufficient to cause a little booming. That's with a CDS2, when I switch to my tuner (NAD 412) - where's the bass ?
BTW, are you using your Kans with Linn's Kan II stands ?

I lived with Kans for 12 years (I now have Kabers) and it is a must that they are placed close to the rear wall. I also used them with a B&W bass woofer with great success!

Mathew,
What speakers were you using prior to the Kans ? To be honest, Kans aren't everyones cup of tea. One of their shortcomings is that, despite being cheap to purchase, they place difficult (ie expensive) demands on what you drive them with, especially if you want to get some bass out of them.
If you basically want to stay with the equipment you've got but want a fuller bass how about trying something like Epos ES11s (or 12s) or Naim Intro's.

Ive tried dynaudios but didnt like them. My current speakers are in my public profile, just click on my name. I would really like to stick with the kan's as they are the best speakers ive heard yet

After i started this thread i got some mk2 kan stands, replaced my 3.4 meter lengths of nac a5 with 6 meter lengths, replaced gold plated banana plugs with nickel plated ones and put speakers right up against back wall, made up some F connecters, removed phono boards, replaced grey snaics with new black ones, and purchased a hi-cap for the cd 3.5
I turned up the volume control to about the 9/10 o'clock position tonight and i swear i heard deep bass, not trouser flapping but my kans don't sound mid-forword anymore, they are much more balanced.
I understand now why people would have an Lp12 and nait 2. i'm starting to see the light!!

a pair of Mana sound bases will work wonders underneath Kans -I was a Kan user for over 10 years (+periods of isobarik use) & adding a pair of sound bases cleans everything up + proves more bass extension & weight.
I sold a pair yesterday to ArianC off the forum who lives locally. I offered to take them round & set them up in order to do an A/B in his sytems (CD3.5/72/180/kans) -as I knew he wouldn't be dissapointed -sure enough, he bought them straight away
