HM The Queen at 80

God Save The Queen (thats what I say even if I don't believe in God)yep, God bless you maam and long may you reign.

Seconded.

She has reigned since 1952 and has never caused one shred of embarassment or concern. She is an exceptional Queen.

If some republican pinko shows his ugly mug they can bugger off. She is useful, brings in billions of trade and the pinko is plain bloody useless and of benefit to no one. If they died no one would neither notice nor care, so pinkos can stay away from this thread.

Regards

In 1967 my brother's class mate and friend, Tomothy Harker presented a bouquet to HMQ at the Three Counties Show at Malvern. I was in the next most senior class and only six feet away from the spectacle. HMQ certainly has presense.

Don't give a damn. If they can't live to a good age with every single thing being done for them. Certainly don't congratulate them.

Maybe not, but the fact that we still have a queen IS an embarrassment.

It's quite indefensible really - all that money and "glory" by an accident of birth etc; hereditary peers are getting slammed left right and centre while the madge bumbles along happily in her palaces and mansions, giving a little wave of the hand here and there.

So no, I don't share your admiration for the old dear. Forced to choose between her and President Grinning Tosser, however...!

While I am a republican, I am compelled to admit that the Queen does an exceptionally good job and her behaviour over the years has been exemplary (the same cannot be said of all other members of her family) and I for one wish her well. The problem with a monarchy, as with any system, is what happens when the throne is occupied with somebody not of the Queen's calibre (when there is no satisfactory system for removing them). As the Economist, hardly a hotbed of commie-pinkoism, said back in 1994, the monarchy is "an idea whose time has passed"; but it will not pass until after the current occupant.

It is churlish not to admire the Queen's fortitude, professionalism and dedication (and yes she does have a sheltered life but that should not detract).

She has undeniably brought pleasure and solace to many, made some people feel special for a while, and has been a fine figure head of 'Royal Britain'.

She has manifestly failed to adapt the Monarchy to a changing world though, and her parenting skills may be in question.

Her finest attribute is having the wit not to abdicate in favour of Charles (who is a tarnished fool IMHO), just maybe skipping a generation gives the Royal family a chance of some future relevance.

Happy Birthdate Mrs Queen.

You have done very well, but I would have preferred one who retired at e.g. 60 at the latest and who spoke her mind publicly and was not just a civil servant in different hats.

She must be very difficult to buy for.
I bought her a cordinated set of poop scoop and rubber gloves in turquiose with the Royal crest on. They threw in a roll of plastic sandwich bags for free. One must do ones bit.

It's my mothers 82nd birthday next month, but I put the calender back to January last time I was there to give myself more time to think what to get her. I don't imagine she'll notice.

A super-dooper pooper-scooper with a royal crest on it? Where will it all end?
