Insurance for hifi

Posted by: ryan_d on 09 April 2009

Hi there,

we've just been trying to get good contents insurance and have found it very difficult to get it included in contents for a reasonable price (we were quoted £140 per month). Now bearing in mind that my hifi is quite modest by Naim standards, this is quite a sum to ask.

So with this in mind, I was wondering do others here include their hifi in their contents insurance or do you use specialist insurers for your pride and joy?

Hi Ryan,

I separately insure my Naim components with Hiscox - based on forum advice. No other insurance company I tried would include my hifi items as there was a specified limit of 2000 per item.

Hiscox I believe costs a bit more than most, but they were so straightforward and I feel comfortable going away on holiday knowing I'm insured with them.

Regards,

Jon

I have mine in the contents insurance. Most of the general policies out there were no good as we exceeded any limits.

We went through an insurance broker who got us quotes with the more specialist providers such as Hiscox etc. We ended up going with Sterling Insurance and their Executive Home product. They came in much cheaper than Hiscox and about the same price as Norwich Unions specialist product. Norwich Union attached more conditions.

I'm insured with Abbey. They are happy to include the Naim kit in with the contents insurance. You don't need to specify the kit either - just make sure you are adequately covered. There is a limit of £5K per piece of kit. Should the unthinkable happen I'm sure the guys at Adventures in Chester would be happy to break my CDS3 into head unit and XPS so that it qualifies.
regards,
Steve.
