Non Mac-Wanting to transmit XM from tower to receive in 01.How?
Posted by: Onthlam on 11 December 2005
So,if I have a non Mac based system, and want to listen to XM from the computer, how would/could I make this happen?
OR-
Would a Car type device work better. The bit rates from the sky are far better than the stream over the internet...Hmmm.
Thanks,
Marc

AFAIK you can still use an Airport Express with iTunes on Windows, but you're obviously limiting yourself with what you can listen to.
The two other products that I know of, and that I think are the leading products, are the Squeezebox and the Roku Soundbridge, but I can't tell you much about them.
I'm not sure what you mean by a "car type device"?
I'd be interested to see what replies you get, I'm in a similar position myself although I do have a Mac and there seem to be few "one solution does it all" products.

Thanks Paul-
A car type device,I mean,is one that fits or is meant to be used is the car.It has a seperate or built in fm modulator and would transmit the signal to the nearest fm tuner.
With this,I think,it could work.But-I have the cable for the G-17 going into the back of the 01...Would the signal be strong enough to be captured by the 01? I do not know??

Hi Marc
How about this with an IMIC or something using it's headphone socket?
XM2go
Wish I had your problem. Currently I can't even buy an internet subscription to XM since it is USA only.

Aside from the legality issue FM transmitters will give an appauling result.
Does this stuff not get put to web somewhere which could then be streamed.

er...it was because you can get it over the ineternet that I tried to buy an internet subscription. I think Marc is alluding to the fact that the quality is better direct to a receiver than when streamed over the internet.quote:Does this stuff not get put to web somewhere which could then be streamed.

Yes,you can subscribe just for the web streaming.
This leaves out about 50 or so channels of programing.
I believe the best stream over the net is like 86k..It sounds fine over the computer but,I would rather take the full signal from the Sat above...
Any legal issues regarding the transmitter are moot.I could put it on top of the 01 but with the G-17 outside, how would I be assured that any/some/alll the signal is getting in there. The 01 will not even pick it up if the signal is not strong enough...The device transmits at the bottom end of the fm band(has a 6 foot limit for signal strength).I use the same type of device for the car. Works great. Just not sure how to tackle this...
The picture below is one that I am considering...

You tried? I see....You need a USA billing address to make it happen..That sucks..
