New 282 and 250

Posted by: C.Bangles on 02 October 2009

I just heared from a trustworthy person that a new version of 282 and 250 are coming, does any one have any news on details and upgrades?

Nope. Is his information in the form of an educated guess (yes it is probable that tehy will be upgraded soon), or did he manage to get a leak from the inside?

Regards...

282 and 250 and not 202-200. That is weird, isn't it?

I think you need a new trustworthy person.

I don't believe anything is happening to the 282 or 250 (or 202 and 200 for that matter)

I hope so since I bought my 282,250 6 months ago!

But it's seven years and....we will see

It raises an interesting point, though.

Should Naim announce ahead of time that they're on the verge of releasing a new (say) 250? Sure, that would kill stone dead sales of the existing model but, as they don't keep kit in stock and build to order, would that matter over the transitional period?

As it happens, I may be in the market for a 250 very soon. I'd feel somewhat miffed if I ordered one and then discovered the following week that a revised model was coming out.

Any comment from Naim on this?

Offcourse they will not

Remember back in 2002 when the full Olive series went black overnight

A guy did mention in a thread the change from 102 to 202, 82 to 282 etc..
They cancelled threads immidiately.

This is the game

I'm a believer that 202 will be replaced very soon

But, if my premise is correct that they build to order, how would Naim lose out by announcing things in advance? After all, when they phased out (say) the NAC52, some owners of Olive kit may even have made a point of ordering one before it went out of production.

Incidentally, I don't remember the switch from Olive to Reference happening "overnight", but I stand to be corrected.

They do announce in advance, for example the S600 and the DAC. Would you expect them to announce a 552 replacement 18 months in advance and kill sales for a year and a half?

Cheers

From my experience Naim are always improving their products.

I recently borrowed a NAP200(2009 model) and it was very-very close in performance to my 2006 NAP250.2. In fact I prefered the NAP200 on some areas of the music over the NAP250.2.

Actually, I would, if they were playing fair with customers about to shell out over half the average (UK) national wage. I have discovered in life that people only take to being f*cked over once, then they lose faith and go elsewhere.

There were no other naim DAC before this one so their announcing it very soon wasn'a a big deal but in other models like new cdx2.....I'm not sure...maybe it was just 10 days or 2 weeks max that I heared that it's comin out.
