To CDX or not CDX this is the question ?

Hello people,

I have the opportunity to purchase a secondhand CDX as a private sale, it is approx 2 years & 10 months old.

Just a few questions answered from all you wise naim users...If its not too much trouble

1) How much should it cost assuming its in good condition..haven't seen it yet! ( He's asking £1350).

2) Is there anything I should be looking out for when checking it over.

Just to put U in the picture I'm using 180,82 with hicap driving modified epos es12's.

Cheers Mad Matt.

£2.4k nowadays... so it is a good price

Check the puck, see if the rubber pressure rings are OK. Have a good look for marks and scratches on the casing. If it sounds good, then it is good. MAKE SURE IT HAS STILL GOT THE TRANSPORT BOLT, and use it when transferring it between premises.

Considering I bought an ex-demo CDX with partial warranty for $2,700 (GBP1830) last month and I was very happy with that price. I have seen 2 year old CDXs go on eBay for around $2,700 as well.

There is a 1991 NAC52/Supercap for sale on eBay for $4,200 at the moment...

£1350 is a steal. You would be taking the piss to beat the vendor down any more.

The CDX should suit both your system and your ears very well. It's a cracking player.

Thanks guys for your responses!

I,m a little more informed now, I contacted Naim with the serial number from said CDX and.... Its history is as follows;

1) Made 17 March 1998
2) Bought 23 Jan 1999
3) Transort replaced 19 Sept 2000

Turns out its 3 years 7 months old not 2 as thought previously. So in light of this does anybody think differently? ........I,ve offerd £1200 if this isn,t accepted I,m seriously considering buying new.

Cheers Mad Matt. roll eyes

Based purely on the age of the machine I think the asking price is good.

However, putting myself in your position, I'd be worried about *why* it needed a new transport. Any idea why this was done? I'd also be a lot happier had the vendor volunteered all this information from the start, rather than having to get the *true dit* from Naim. After saying that, because the machine has been back to Naim as recently as 13 months ago, I would expect it to be working properly as long as the seller has taken appropriate care of the machine. Until I know why it needed a new transport, I would wonder about that. So, a bit of a dilemma.

If you can afford to buy new, do so. Peace of mind is worth something. Alternatively, perhaps you could look for another seller. I bought my CDX *used* with no problems at all.

Ok ........

No need to worry about using some inadaquate player in the interim period for me oh no!

Thanks for everybodys help, I'll let you no how I get on with my new toy! ( Not that its a toy of course .....more a play thing)?

Bye for now Mad Matt.
