balcance knob question on 52

Posted by: davidf on 01 October 2003

I recently noticed that to properly balance the music while in mono setting, that to have it properly balanced I need to set the control to about 12:30 or 1 oclock. I checked that the balance control goes equally to both extremes- it does. Is this a problem? When centered at exactly 12 oclock the sound is very subtly shifted to the left. I have lived with it this way for awhile and only noticed it when I was trying to tune the balance. Is there an adjustment to be made on the knob so that I can then set it to 12 oclock and have it be balanced? I don`t want to get neurotic about this. When I set it right of center and everything is balanced, it sounds quite good. Thanks in advance. david

My 32.5 is the same (well...as regards the balance pot at least). I leave my balance pot at about 12.30, but it niggles me too. I think its something about being too anal about these things. I have talked to my dealer, and he basically said, balancing the sound left to right is what they provide a balance pot for!
OK...its us then Frown. Try to forget about it and put it down to normal influences of room conditions, and remember its not an imbalance within the system electrics.

Er I don't care where the pot points just balance till it sounds right.

I agree, why have a balance if you always have it centred in every scenario.

I adjust mine from time to time when specific recordings are slightly skewed on way or another.
