"Perfecting Sound"

Posted by: JDN on 22 July 2009

I heard a discussion on Radio 5 Live last night about the history of sound recording.

Rhod Sharp was talking with Greg Milner author of Perfecting Sound Forever.

Covers topics from the Edison Phonograph through to Pro Tools via wax cylinders, vinyl, tape and CD. Some anecdotes about Edison, Stokowski, The Beatles, Springsteen and Neil Young.

Includes a mention on 4 track, 8 track recordings, LowFi/HiFi not forgetting the 'Loudness Wars' on modern digital recordings.

The discussion is available on BBC iplayer. Programme segment starts at 02:37Hrs Wed 22 July. (Duration 23 Minutes)

Hope it may be of interest.

John.
