Sound factory to Fraim

Posted by: MarkyB on 10 March 2002

Have at present

LP12/Lingo/Ittock/Troika 72/HiCap/140 CD3.5 Creek T40 Tuner NAC A5 to Epos ES14.

I am picking up my new Hi Cap on Tuesday(Can't wait) along with my LP12 which has had a service and a couple of new hinges and have asked to listen to the Linn and my kit on a fraim. Currently employing Sound Factory Tripod for everything and will have to have all on one again.

Questions.

1. Has anyone made a similar switch?

2. What would be the minimum levels?

3. Where would be the best place for everything (LP12 on top obviously)

Cheers for any help

Yes I did this last year following a house move. I had all the electronics on Tripods and CDS & LP12 on Audiotech wall shelves

Had to get rid of the shelves as the new place is dry-lined so tried sources on Tripod and had Fraim at home for a week at the old place prior to the move and did 3 way comparison.

Relative to the Audiotech, the Tripod was woolly and slow in the bass, with loss of detail. With the Fraim for just the sources the bass was faster, better defined, everything was more spacious and sounded clearer and more natural and easier on the ear.

I found that I could fit the CDS on a wide space rack and the LP12 on top. Both CDS and LP12 sounded marginally better when the Fraim only had one of them on it but in the real world the difference is marginal

I decided to go for Fraim for the full system (CDS/Fully naimed LP12/52/135/SBL)and am well pleased with it.

Just need a 500, a 552 and SL2s (but then I always was greedy)

My advice would be to go for a base (£500) and a wide shelf (£350) and leave the rest on Tripod

My Fraim / Audiotech / Tripod comparision was done at the old place where I had the electronics in the dining room and only the speakers in the listening room (18m of NACA5 went under the floor in conduit).

I would still like to see your arm upgraded to Aro or Ekos.

Have ordered a black fraim with 1 base and 4 shelves. Had permission so went for it.

Everything must go on this one stand.

Advice on optimimum positioning of my gear would be much appreciated.

I hope your dealers being supportive. Sorry for the pun, but I learnt the hard way via Emails to the guys at Naim as my dealers response was "theres the 9 boxes hope you know how to set it up" - disgraceful service

Whats the system you'll be using on it?

Bosh,

Have at present
LP12/Lingo/Ittock/Troika 72/HiCap/140 CD3.5 Creek T40 Tuner NAC A5 to Epos ES14

May consider not including the tuner as it gets very little use.

I made a point of asking whether or not the dealer would come to my place and set it up for me and the salesman said they would. We shall see.

Unfortunately I did not take my Epos when I had a listen and they used PMC TB2 through chord cable. Not to my taste at all.

Typical, started off just wanting a long desired Hi Cap ( bought Naim 42.5/110 v Linn LK amps years ago on the basis of upgrading to Snaps) and ended up getting Fraim as well. God bless interest free plastic.

Card was Capital one mastercard. 9 Months. Not sure they are doing it anymore.

Just came through the post and seemed like a better idea than 6 months through the credit Company.
