Active Speakers

Posted by: MontyW on 10 May 2001

My present system consists of: CD3.5/flatcap, 92/flatcap, 90 and a pair of Linn Kans.

I've been offered an IXO crossover and a further 90 at a very reasonable price. My question is; what speakers are possibles for audition?

My Kans are great, are there any speakers which would give a similar and perhaps better sound?

Any advice?

Cheers,

Dave

there's some correspondance on doing this earlier on the forum and if you're really interested I've just done the job myself and can offer a bit of advice (e.g. try and use nac-a4 not a5 inside, a5 is way too stiff). Overall they become unbelievably good and just sooooo revealing.

David,
As Phil said, do an Infopop search as much has already been said.
If you're too lazy, here's the condensed version: No speaker will get even close to active Kans for the money. If you think Kans sound good now as Borje said, they become transformed when activated!!(even with 90s!) There are only a handful of speakers that an IXO will work with and the Kans are one of them. When you get your speakers modified to active mode, get the new tweeters installed at the same time.
