quadraspire bog seat smaller size?
Posted by: gerni g. on 27 July 2002
hi all,
the bog seat appearse to be nice, but what about the guys using smaller sized equipment?
does anybody knows if there are problems with a smaller size.
currently i´m using a qs std with the veneer mod and would love to cut holes in the shelfs.
but my tuners footprint is to small, the x-10d and x-psu would fall through and the vcr would hang down in the middle.
i think i´m not alone.
c´mon guy, anybody outthere who knows the trick.
best regards,
gerni g.

For half-width Naim boxes e.g hi-cap, no worries with the standard cut if you don't mind the gap at either side being visible, and for Linn stuff etc, QS will cut the hole to fit. (See my photo on the 'Quadraspire' thread)

As far as I'm aware you can still order Reference shelves without the holes, and therefore mix and match the rack to suit your exact needs.

thank you,
as i see the hole cuts out the resonating of the shelf. therefor it´s best to match the hole size with the supported equipment.
this should have the best effect.
to alan: there´s really an improvment getting rid of the vcr. most vcrs don´t shut off completly, whereas mine could be setup to be switched off completly. no timer in display, nada.
for sure, there´s a degradation in sound as the vcr is switched on. but i can live with that when watching tv.
and allen yes, the vcr is sharing the same distribution block as the rest of the hifi and video equipment.
being well concerned about that i ran two dedicated spurs, one for hifi the other for av gear.
the positive effect was everything sounded clearer but the downside was the musical flow was gone due to the two ground leads.
naim pays close attention to the ground-potential. there´s just one route.
if running two spurs (starting at exactly the same point), there´s interference between the grounds.
so in the end i will live with just one dedicated spur and a little degradation but with the "flow".
to vuk´son and stallion:
should fit my ass. never thought of decoupling your ears. it makes the music sound more natural.
best regards,
gerni

Gerni,
you know, you want to be careful talking about smaller sized equipment on bog seats.
(Toilet humour, it's just so hard to resist).

I have this probem with my Quad FM4 tuner.
The solution - for the fourth rate source, order taller columns between the shelves and it put in on top of another stanard size box.
Works O.K., doesn't seem to effect the main sources / amp
Another problem is that the feet on some gear are in the wrong place for the holes, so they can be just in or just out. The solution here is take off the original feet, and get some new sticky ones from Maplin and put them in the right place.
