135's (1986) vs 202/200 for SBL's

Posted by: JohnMak on 27 February 2004

Hi guys,
I have a choice for the SBL's.
1. A pair of 135's (1986) serviced at Naim 20 months ago and put into Olive cases.(asking GBP950)
At this point there is no preamp with them. The owner is thinking about selling his Olive 52 + S'cap but not sure and I have no idea what price.

or

A new 202/200 system for around GBP2060.

CDP ..... God I don't know CD5, CD5i or CDX2???

202/HiCap/200 + CDX2 would be a great well balanced system, it would be my choice. Good luck Edouard.

You could also purchase first: 1/ 202/200/CD5, and 2/ add a HiCap to the CD5 later on, the last move would be 3/swap the CD5 for the CDX2...keeping the HiCap to power 202. Regards Edouard.

John,

You seem to have a good deal on both amplifier options. As the 202/200 is new is this coming from a dealer? If so then you may want to investigate the possibility of getting the 202 with a flatcap2 and using this with the 135s. The cost should be about the same as the 202/200 but will I think significantly out perform it, of course if you can stretch to a Hi-Cap or PSC that would be even better.

As for CDs, from what I have heard if you can afford the CDX2 I would go for that, alternatively you could get a CD5 and connect it to the secondary output of the Flatcap2.
