No Sam or Annie though. The chemistry between those two was rivetting. Should be worth a look.

As someone who watches very little television normally, the original series had me completely hooked and was required viewing.

Having just watched the first episode of Ashes to Ashes, I can only hope that it recaptures the magic as the series progresses. The props, clothes and music are all very evocative, as they were in Life on Mars, perhaps the original novelty is not as unique as it was first time around. Time will tell.

Interestingly my 13 year old was watching intermittently over her shoulder from the computer, but gradually got sucked into the programme and ended up watching it with me. Then she asked me to explain what had been going on, which is not that straight forward!

Thought Ashes to Ashes was a little bit disappointing, not the same spark between the two main characters as there was in Life On Mars.

Lets see how things develop.

Unless Hawes is a verb I've never heard of or a play on words - that is a bizarre reaction.

I think we should concentrate on her acting ability to judge here and the programme.

I loved it and laughed out loud on several occasions - it must be my age !!!

?

She's a terrific actress - I also happen to have a bit of a thing for her. Is that so wrong?

seemed to have none of the magic of the original series.. I think the tool of having Keeley Hawes know about Sam is a mistake and removes the tension and drama completely.. Didnt help that the actual episodes storyline was pathetic beyond belief..

Whilst I accept your point about her knowing about Sam's experiences being a mistake, I think to judge Ashes to Ashes on the basis of the first episode alone is premature. Let's see what happens over the course of the next couple of episodes. It's too easy to get into the trap of seeing this series in terms of its predecessor, IMO.

After 'Ashes to Ashes' I would love to see a new series where DCI Gene Hunt is transformed suddenly to the future - our time. How will he cope with the new 'PC' Police....?

I don't agree that her knowing about Sam is a mistake - without that it would simply be a re run of life on Mars but with (some) different characters

I wasn't wholly convinced by the first episode but I think it has the potential to have a different and interesting angle specifically because she knows about Sam and that she's in a coma. Will have to see how it pans out though

Agreed, definitely better than the first episode. Developing nicely.

Missed it yesterday as away training in the lovely Milton Keynes. Just as well Aunty has provided the excellent iPlayer function. Last nights episode available here

Massive improvement this week. First time in yonks I've used my VHS machine, as I was held up yesterday and HAD to go swimming late.

I don't watch enough telly to warrant a HDD or DVDR machine - and was surprised at the recording replay quality off of cable Winker

The only other things I watch on TV are Shameless and Skins! Might have to catch up with Life on Mars on "TV choice on demand" though Smile
