naim power cables/ fuses
Posted by: GC on 04 January 2002
hi there,
is there any difference between the naim power cables that supplied with the units to standard computer cables? Ive lost the original ones and have replaced them with standard computer ones, would this lead to any loss of sound quality, also when people mention replacing the fuses in these cables, what are they replaced with - just standard 13amp fuses?
cheers,
gus

The Naim cables are surprisingly good. I have surprised several people by replacing no-name stuff in their systems with the pukka items.
cheers, Martin

May I open up this discussion? An acoustics engineer, friend of mine (and Naim enthousiast as well), keeps telling me that one of the best upgrades is to have an electrician wire a direct connection between your electricity counter and your hi-fi system (put simply, at least; I was given 15 minutes of technical explanations but am totally incapable of reproducing them). Anyone have experience with this, and with the cost? As I am renting a house I wouldn't want to go for unreasonable expenses (I don't know what it's like elsewhere, but over here almost any future tenant will consider you nuts if you claim that purifying hi-fi power supply is worth money!).

Daveyp,
£7.50 for the pukka €uronaim cable, that's about 12 €urines!
Most EuroNaim dealers can supply a Schuko compatible block at about €50 that is supposed to be v.good too.
And yes, dedicated mains are the most important upgrade you can make, you'll not get the full potential of box upgrades otherwise.
