In search of a Wimpey burger!
Posted by: Jonathan Gorse on 28 January 2008
So how many of you rememebr with fondness the old Wimpey fast food chain?? I used to love the quarter pounder. I did stop on the M6 Northbound somewhere in Cumbria and found the motorway services there had a Wimpey and thoroughly enjoyed a quick burger fix there!
Now I shall be driving South from Glasgow to Surrey on Friday and would dearly love to find which services it was I stopped at so I can go again.
Does anybody know?? I tried to find the website for Wimpey and can't even find that anymore.

RoadChef seems to have a linkup with Wimpey outlets on the motorways.

Great stuff guys and can't believe I spelt it wrong too!
I guess it is Killington Lake or Sandbach then for a Wimpy fix!
I don't know about you but I always liked the fact that Wimpy cooked to order with table service plus the fact they were the British underdog.
Thanks again,
Jonathan

Sorry to bring a sour note to your thread Jonathan, but much as I remember with fondness the old 'Wimpy bar' from my childhood with their Knickerbocker Glorys etc, the modern incarnation I find awful.
I'm not a fast food fan but will eat it when pressed - usually on the motorway where there isn't much else other than manky sandwiches.
But a couple of years ago I stopped for a Wimpy and it was the slowest service I've ever had, the smallest burger I've ever had, the worst tasting burger I've ever had and the most expensive fast food burger I've ever had. 4 records in one stop!
Needless to say I won't be trying Wimpy again.

YYYEEEEEEEUUUUUUUCCCCCCHHHHHHH
A horrible name from the past.
That was not food. It was a gristle burger of exceptional standard.
In Bristol in the 1970's the best burger bar was WEREWOLVES. Fantastic
Also Cary's was a wonderful burger resteaurant in Clifton Bristol, i ate there regularly.
But Wimpy sad sad sad.

Locally Uncle Sams has always been a favourite, unfortunately less and less shops and I eat less and less burgers(when out that is)these days.
I don't seem to remember Wimpy being that bad, if we (the family) were stuck for a quick meal Wimpy was good as it was the only fast food outlet Mum would go in as they had knives, forks and plates

Wimpy..? You are an ill man, and should seek immediate help. Symptoms may include paying over the odds, mouthwatering with no good reason, and a rose-tinted memory.
Ahem.
DAVOhorn - sorry to say both Bristol establishemnts are long gone. But help is at hand; the very best burgers I have ever had are created at Schwartz Bros. in Bath.
(Yes I live in Bath and only work in Bristol!)

Remember how you used to get a knife and fork with your burger at wimpy too.
How English. Excellent!

Dear SJB,
What was the name of the fantastic Burger Bar that we used to frequent in lowestoft?
Shame about BSE and the impact it had on Steak Reteaurants.
