CD5/Hi cap v CDX2 - Opinions or experience?

Contemplating the switch. I know all about doing the demo, believe me. However it may work out to being an inter costal deal w/ money back if not satisfied. Logistics notwithstanding, I'd be interested to hear from anyone who's a/b'd or made the jump.

I heard the CDX2 vs a cd5/flatcap2 and the CDX2 was clearly superior. The cdx2 was far more accurate than the cd5, in terms of tonality and timbre of the instruments. It The cd5 is already an excellent cd player, so the cdx2 just goes far and away above anything else out there.

One of the people I was listening with said the tracks sounded better this is Linn LP12 turntable. This is the most analogue sounding cd player I have heard.

Email me if you want to talk about it further.

Easy really

I don't doubt for a second that the CDX2 is the better player. (Baaaaaaaaa Smile) Indeed, I've already commited to the leap.
The CD5/Hi is a WONDERFUL combination. It does nothing wrong and is very engaging. But it's maxed out w/ it's external supply.
I shall be experiencing the difference first hand soon. I'll only have limited time to do a side by side, since the CD5 is a percentage of the coinage for the upgrade, and therefore must go for the other to arrive.
I most certainly will post my findings. I am just curious if anyone else has had a comprehensive experience.
Had the CD5/hi for about a year, prior to that the CD5/fc2, and began w/ a bare CD5. I've got a real good handle (to say the least) on the CD5. I don't have a single complaint. But there's always more ----

Julian, point taken.

Running a 82/Super/250. Striving for balance.
Also agree about the CD5 & nait combination.
In some ways it is a more engaging system
than mine w/ the CD5 in place.

Bob

As ever, your ears must decide. It ain't that clear cut. My dealer has A/B demoed this comparison (with the CDX) a few times; and personal preferences were just about split down the middle.

In a nutshell; I'd say that the CD5/HC boogies better and the CDX has a more subtle sophisticated sound.

I haven't heard it properly, but I'd guess that the CDX2 has gotta be preferable as an all rounder.

Good luck.

Bob, regarding the CD5, what was your experience
upgrading from flatcap2 to hicap? As dramatic
as bare CD5 to flatcap2. Thanks.

Kentonious - "Dramatic" is not the word I would use to describe the difference going from the FC2 to the Hi. "Readily apparent" is more in keeping w/ my experience. It is worthwhile, particularly in the context of a system above the nait 5/112 that I used it in originally. The investment in the Hi has larger expression in systems over the above mentioned combinations. I picked up the HI 2nd hand and thought the price v performance to be very good.

Alexgerrard - I went from a single hi on the 82 to the Super. Still have the Hi, and if you'd like I could sit down and qualify the differenes. I didn't have the life altering revelation some others have posted about when making the switch. At first the sound seemed to go backwards from the the 82/Hi! That said, in the last few days amazing things have begun to happen. First, the system has gained a much more visceral presence across the spectrum, which is quite thrilling. Second, the lowest extremes are manifesting some serious weight and pitch. Best of all, this is just starting recently and I'm sure it's going to continue to improve for a while.

Alex - everything is olive but the CD5 and the stageline. (I couldn't spring for the newer style SC and still be contemplating the CDX2! Bless my dealer for making the SC easy to own.)
