Anyone for chicken?

Hello there,

This might sound a stupid question, but does anyone know if the chicken in Geddy Lee's henhouse stageset is real?

Just wondering... Smile

My guess would be that for both health and safety regulations, and well as licensing in stadiums (burger bars etc.), that purely for legal reasons the rotisserie chicken ovens would have to be fake.

Also on a practical level for the road crew in terms of handling hot equipment, and also the problem with grease run off, they would not be practical to get on and off stage each night of the tour.

On the previous tour, Geddy Lee had tumble dryers, and a roadie changed the contents during the show.

With in ear monitoring, musicians like Geddy Lee no longer need their bank of monitor speakers behind them, and it is his way of making a joke out of the space that would be left on stage.

Guitarists do still need their monitors so that they can get feedback, unless they don't want that. Not shrieking feedback, but the sharpness that rock guitarists often use at the end of long held notes to give character, or in the case of players like Jimmy Hendrix and Adrian Belew, to play lead by using the feedback to control the note of the guitar.

I do not comment as someone who has been part of a stage crew for a large touring band, but working in TV, I am very aware of the health and safety issues of working with a large crew with the kind of power used for concerts, or film stages, and the regulations that surround that, and I would be very surprised if it were any less strict for concerts than for film and TV.

I do hope someone on the forum can comment on stage shows from the days before health and safety regulations became so rigorous and tell some great live disasters, or idiotic schemes from past days of rock. Metallica and the flame thrower that 'toasted' the Kirk Hammett's arm comes to mind.

The problem with these kind of amp/effect is that you don't need to change the valves but you really have to chenge the chickens sometimes.
