Stay for Josh Ritter?

Posted by: winkyincanada on 18 September 2010

We just bought tickets to see Josh Ritter just so we could catch the sweet and ultra-talented Basia Bulat who is supporting his act. Should we stay around for Josh? Any recommendations on his best work? To my knowledge I've never any of his stuff.

Boy, I would stay. Great double bill show.

The only JR disc I have is the below, as recommended here, and it is superb. Excellent song craft. I will be buying more in the future as I try to catch up with this artist.

Hope you enjoy your concert.

The most original and stunning album I've heard in years - it really doesn't get any better.

Her second album is excellent, but the debut belongs firmly on my desert island disc list.

This is up there with Cammell Laird Social Club and Duckworth Lewis Method as among the finest releases this century.

Whether Basia becomes as big a star as Sandy Denny remains to be seen, but she's got all the credentials to be the best.

Sorry, but I've never heard of Josh Ritter - hope he's good.

I knew you'd be along soon, ROTF. Can't wait to see Basia again.

I'll have to get a Basia Bulet CD, her voice is good but her live performances leave something to be desired. I saw her several times at the Edmonton Folk Festival, 40 minutes to set up and 20 minutes songs if you are lucky. Is she a bit of a premadonna? Other artists were set up in less than 10 minutes - 20 if there were a load of them.

Primadonna? No way. I found her to be totally charming. The concert I went to see was at a small venue here in Vancouver and she was stunning. She worked through some technical glitches without fluster (which is more than I can say for Thom Yorke). A true class act. Charming and modest. Her staging was simple but effective with a couple of accompanying musicians comprising her brother on drums and her support act helping out with some instruments and vocals. Whilst she does play a wide variety of instruments, she also did some properly acoustic stuff - no amps at all, and just one (or no) instrument. That bit was great. My wife, who hadn't heard much of her music prior to the concert, fell in love with her.
