Receiver to Nac 92 ?

Posted by: Tomas on 01 May 2007

How do I connect my receiver to my 92/90 combo ? Can I do it on the tape loop ? If yes, is the volume pot on the 92 bypassed ? Hope someone can answer my Q.../Tomas

Hi Tomas,

What do you mean by "receiver"? I presume a non-naim AV receiver

92 does not have a dedicated "AV" input. You will need to adjust the volume accordingly when using this input.

A unity gain mod may(?) be able to be fitted to a 92, but to date this has not been done.

Hi,
that was just what I meant (Marantz). It would be nice to be able to drive front speakers through the Naim´s. Do the Marantz affect the volume at all ?
Thanx for the fast reply !

The usual way to do this without the mod is to set the pre-amp volume to 1/2way and let the AV receiver control the volume on the fronts

Your opinion... Would you integrate the systems that way or would you rather have two separate systems that needs more space ? Do you think it´s a way to complicate matters, one or the other ?

It works well Tomas.

Any unused input would do i would have thought.

On my 112 the volume needs to be set to around 2 o'clock. This is with the av amp set to zero for the output to the naim pre for L/R duties. A sound pressure level meter is very handy for this.

Hi,
thanx for all the replies !
Maybe any input will do, don´t know but many seems to refer to the tapeloop as the connection to go with...
Anyway...now I´m eager to connect the pieces together...just hafta get the right cable...any suggestions ?
I´ve seen some on "Flashback", are those something to go with ?

Tomas,

Any input will do. The sound quality coming from the AV receiver is usually not as good as you would get in your stereo system, partly because DVDs use lossy compression (Dolby Digital and DTS are both lossy compression systems, which shows just how clever those boffins are). Therefore even the worst quality input (being the tapeloop) will do. That said, if you want to optimise the sound, then use one of the better input-only inputs such as Tuner.

Chord Co makes very good custom and standard interconnects:-

Alan,

I'm interested to know why you're needing to set the volume at 2 o'clock on your NAC112 for AV front channels, when a dedicated AV unity gain input is provided, programmable within the 112 software?

good point...
