My new system!

Posted by: Bas V on 09 June 2002

Hi!

Well, it seems I have my system completed. My plan was to go CDX, Nait3R, Monitor Audio Studio 2's, but as both the CDX and MA's were sold when I had already bought them (weird!), I had to change plans.

So yesterday I bought me a Nait 5 and CD 5 and I have ProAc Tablette 50's for trial at home.

It sounds really good. Not as good as the CDI, 102+Hi and 180, but satisfying nonetheless. So, I guess I'll go this way and sell the Linn Classik. I now have a combo that looks better, sounds better and is as room saving as the Linn.

I also have an HMS Sestetto mkII cable for trial at home. First impression is that I sometimes prefer the HMS to the Naim cable. It has more punch and better bass, but the Naim has better highs. I will now play the Naim for a while and then switch to the HMS and back. I'll let you know if the Naim is bettered!

Hi Bas,

Congrats on your latest purchase!
I bet the Tablette's will look and sound georgeous on the Target HR60's that 'll be next on your list.

too bad you don't have a digi-cam,so you could post a picture of your new system...

Greetings,

Good to hear

you got the goodies at last. The CD5 is a total cutie. It's about as tall as a peanut butter sandwich, and yet it's prduces all this music.

So do you have a sense this is a different kind of sound Naim is aiming for, perhaps a teensie more round earth, compared with the CDI etc?

The 102 is playing at this very moment, and it asks me to say hi

Glad to hear you're finding something you're happy with. Nice that the 5 seies is so slim - if you change your mind about space later you can always slide in an FC2. smile

I had a brief listen to a non-naim interconnect (gasp!)the other day in CD5/Nait5/Jura system. It was that plaited one - whatever it's called. Anthem, thats it!

My impressions were:
[LIST]
  • "bass punch" was resolved better, leading me to believe that this cable is likely employed to releive other tuning problems
  • the "top end" got "sweeter"
  • The music suffered badly]
  • oh my god - now the musicians are just playing off on their own, rather than together (Dandy Warhols)
  • conclusion was that on musical terms alone, 45 secs is enough to tell my ears that the Naim interconnect is still all you need in your system to make music.
  • The rest is surely hifi. wink

I'm sure there are some very "good" interconnects out there. The only question is: designed for hifi or music?

Here's a link to the Chord Anthem gen. I'm sure it's good to some ears - I have no idea what it's priced at (didn't ask).

    Interesting speaker, eh?

They need a good room, and even then you need to have a real hellraiser mindset to get on with them. Unique in their price range, IMHO.

    What did you think, Rico?
