Armageddon for 120V 60Hz

Posted by: David Young on 19 November 2003

I would appreciate if someone or Naim could explain how Armageddon for 120V 60Hz resolve the frequency difference between the main supply (60Hz) and the AC motor (50Hz) in the LP12? As I understand that Linn use the same AC motor (50Hz) for both 240V & 120V versions and the Armageddon is just a stepdown transformer. Wouldn't the speed be affected?

Thanks.

Patrick,

Thanks for your reply, you mean the pulley that is part of the motor. Can I change just the UK pulley to US pulley or I have to change the whole motor? Do you know how to differenciate the US pulley from the UK one?

Thanks

In USA/Canada you need a 60 Hz motor when using an Armageddon. Linn did supply these in the past as part of their Basic LP12.

Valhalla and Lingo use a 50 Hz motor.

Thanks Patrick, what is your comment about 60Hz motor mentioned by Paul? It seems make sense to me.

Thanks Paul, do you know if Linn still have the supply of 60Hz motor?

Thanks.

Hi David,

For what it's worth I'm the other David Young Patrick was talking about.

This is covered to some extent by a thread I started on PFM when I discovered the motor spindle on my Systemdek was bent. If you read the thread all will become clear.............maybe Smile

Thanks again Patrick, I understand now. Someone in other forum mentioned that the LP12 with 60Hz motor also come with slightly larger inner platter (to keep belt tension proportional to smaller 60hz pulley) than the one in 50Hz motor version. Is it true?

No.
