Buddy Holly

I heard on radio4 this morning, that today is the 47th anniversary of Buddy Holly's passing.
Also of Big Bopper and Ritchie Valens of course.

My favourite 50's artist (incl. Elvis). Buddy's recordings are timeless.

It was good to hear "Today" recognising him, as achange from the regular diet of politics, hot air and doom. Am I the only one who thinks the Fat Controller could do worse than take a long hard look at what follows the Radio 4 Theme and not just the theme itself?

I've heard Led Zep on Today and Kraftwerk on PM, which given the remit of each isn't bad going.

There are recordings of Buddy and Elvis which I wouldn't describe as timeless but are shiver inducing, such is the clarity and realism of the recordings. Having to keep it simple had its advantages.

Cheers

I heard that BBC R4 thingie, and it inspired me to listen to my Buddy vinyl/CDRs - check out & listen to lots of his other rarer stuff.

I sadly decided that his 30-50 'Greatest Hits' sort of thing was his best recorded output. I am sorry he died like that so so young.

I agree and Elvis's remastered cds and dvds are IMO are very good, shows just what can be done with older sometimes mimilist recording methods.
