I have 2 remotes - one supplied with my (old) cdx and another supplied with my new 252. The 252 version controls everything, whereas the cdx one can't switch to preamp mode (to turn the display off for instance).

Presumably this is normal behaviour - I wonder if Naim could confirm?

Ta Tom,

Batteries good idea!!! Did the trick no worries now...until of course the batteries power drops to a point where the signal emitted to said equipment is garbled.
On a serious note though surely the remote should send the correct command to the appropriate piece of equip it's suppost to be controling!!

I wonder why naims remotes are blessed this way Other Remotes simpley stop working before they ned a new battery!!

I'm thinking I should test the amount of juice left in the batts from the remote thats causing the prob?

cheers for now Roll Eyes

I have a Flash remote that stops working every few weeks - I take the batteries out for 15 mins and then put the same ones back in and it works fine - what is the problem?

May as well get my 'remote' moan in as well!!

I've stopped using my flash (for the second time) due to the commands not seeming to work without a very solid 'press' on some buttons e.g. toggling the 52 inputs up/down always seems to be very hit and miss. Have gone back to using the narcom!

I also have interaction from the television remote (sony) which will change the 52 input channel when I'm switching the televisions speakers on/off via its menu.

Not a real problem and I've now got used to fielding both narcom and sony remote at the same time!!

But irritating though isn't it? especially when you've paid all that money!!

Cheers

Re: Poking around in the dark.

quote:
The biggest problem I have with the remote is knowing which way up to hold the damn thing!

Also, the layout is rather counter-intuitive - the learning curve for 'listeners in the dark' is steep and rugged. (Five series remote)

I'm glad it's not just me...

It took me some time to overcome the urge to hold it the wrong way around, and as you say, it's a total bitch to use in the dark.

All the buttons are the same size, with no obvious tactile separation, and you have to remember the mental image of it's layout and count rows and columns to navigate the thing.

Changing inputs is an iterative process Wink

And, despite new batteries the 112 is still occasionally unresponsive to volume change requests from the Naim remote.

Dobbin,

If you have an old-style black Narcom which came with your CDX then the "disp" and "prog" buttons won't function on the pre-amp. The early preamps didn't have these functions so weren't included. The numeric keys should still switch inputs though.

Steve T,

Possibly your remote has some dodgy buttons on it. Try changing the batteries or, if that doesn't work, try borrowing another remote to see whether all works OK.

david r,

First you need to open up the unit. Write down the software version number from the PIC (FPxxx) then carefully peel off the label and write down what is written on the chip. It could be one of a couple of things and this info will help solve the problem. E-mail us.

GautamR,

Not much we can do here, I'm afraid, beyond recommending a torch. R&D have suggested using a hot needle to make dimples on commonly used buttons - it won't look pretty, though.

Nick,

We have recently been made aware of the SKY+ conflict with our remote codes. We have got hold of a SKY+ remote control and are making investigations.

Hope some of this helps.

...one of these

Home Theatre Master MX-500 Review

The MX-500 is like the LP12 of universal remotes. It may not be as sexy as the touch screen models, but the digging around I've done has found lots of folks who did not get along with the touchscreen types.

1 - too big to hold and press buttons with one hand so two hands must be used

2 - loss of tactile - you can't use it by feel. You must look at it to see what you're doing

Folks with Prontos and and the Sony 3000 are returning them and getting the MX-500.

I've got one on order.

Thanks Richard,
That explains it - had a 72/90 at the time so wasn't able to remote control the preamp.
