Just looked inside a high cap 2.............

I have just looked inside my high cap 2. I notice that the signal connecting wires on the rear of the DIN sockets are totally unscreened. How come they don’t pickup hum from the transformer?
Is a flat cap the same ?

A couple of reasons...
The torridal transformer is inherently quieter than conventional stacks.
The insides of the Hi are shielded from the outside by the all-metal case that is earthed (a Faraday Cage of sorts).
The unscreened leads are short.
The signals are relatively high level (making whatever noise they pick up significantly smaller than the signal). -- Couldn't get away with this if they were phono signals!
The driving impedance is low (from the preamp) effectively shorting noise to reference (ground).
The first is the main reason.

There may be more reasons, anyone?

I think Naim used the venerable torroid in all their mains powered applications. It has many advantages.
And you're welcome BTW!

I's say David's got it right, except that the last five reasons are the most important
