Rory Gallagher Guitar Exhibition - Dublin (National Museum) then London (Harrods)

Posted by: JWM on 22 November 2006

An Exhibition in Dublin will feature 32 of Rory's guitars and also a few of his amps, as part of a quite outstanding guitar exhibition sub-titled 'The Life and Times of the Electric Guitar 1931-2006' .

The exhibition runs from November 24th 2006 to January 21st 2007 and is planned to move to Harrods, Knightsbridge, after Dublin to help celebrate the 40th anniversary of the Way-In department, for which Rory and Taste played the launch gig for in '67.

The venue is The National Museum Of Ireland, Collins Barracks, Dublin 7. Admission is free.

Opening Hours (main galleries):
Tuesday – Saturday 10am - 5pm
Sunday 2pm - 5pm
Closed Mondays (incl bank holidays)

Late night opening to RockChic exhibition on Thursdays until 8pm.

Can you go for me please, Sloop John B?!!

32 guitars, really? How come he always seemed to be playing the same battered strat?

Oh, this is cruel. My wife is off to Dublin tomorrow for a long weekend and she wouldn't be interested at all in going. Frown
It just happens that I'll be in Knightsbridge with a few hours to kill at exactly the time the exhibition opens at Harrods. It's great being self-employed. Now when does it move to London again?

EDITED

Rasher,
Your wife won't want to go to the Sinnerboy gig either then, probably!

Nevermind - perhaps we could meet up for that long overdue beer?!

James

PS Why so many guitars? Why not?! He didn't just use the 'Tatocaster' (though it was clearly his fave!) not even the two Teles, Duolian, acoustic, and mandolin with which I saw / heard him play.

I understand from a recent magazine (I think Classic Rock, to mark the 10th anniversay of Rory's death) that many of the guitars he'd pick up on his travels, in 'blues-rich' areas, often for just a few dollars at a pawn or s/h shop.
