Configuring J.River Media Jukebox

Posted by: Hot Rats on 03 June 2010

I'm almost ready to go. The new rack for the DAC, XPS2 and PC was delivered today. The M2Tech Hiface is being delivered tomorrow and everything should be up and running by tomorrow evening ... That's the theory at any rate! (LOL)

Can someone please tell me how to configure J. River Media Jukebox to output to the DAC. I know where to find the latest driver for the Hiface and I'm OK with installing that. I just need to know how to specifiy digital out option in the jukebox software. Do I also need to mute or disable the internal soundcard on the laptop when I am outputting digitally to the DAC?

One more things. is it possible to get J.River Media Jukebox to startup with the albums screen rather than Amazon's page. It might not be possible in the freeware version of their application.

Thanks

If I understand correctly, J.River Music Jukebox doesn't support WASAPI so you are limited to ASIO mode [edit: sorry looks like the Music Jukebox doesn't support ASIO either - definitely you'll want Meida Center or switch to Foobar 2000 is another alternative]. For this to work with your HiFace you'll need to download the free ASIO4All software. Ultimately though you may want / need to splash out the $50 or so for the full Media Centre software which has been significantly updated since the last version of the Muisc Jukebox programme.

Can I suggest you take a look at the dCS Computer Audio setup guide as being a good place to start. http://www.dcsltd.co.uk/page/a...o_Computer_Audio.pdf

You don't want to disable the internal sound card, but do make sure you mute it - that way any spurious noises will be directed to the (muted) internal sound card rather than risking being directed to your DAC.

Though not listed as an option, every version of Jukebox I've tried definitely supported ASIO.

I am on J.river 14 and can tell you it will play WASAPI/ASIO/WAVE OUT and DIRECT SOUND but ASIO is prefered by my ears.

Rips are wav. via dbpoweramp and I just prefer My current set-up over windows/i-tunes or windows/foobar but I am hoping to listen Apple/i-tunes (if I can somehow) before committing to a future new computer purchase.

I too have not worked out if you can configure J.river to start up in the audio page instead of the home/Amazon page, not sure if I am even bothered, I just open up and click on audio then choose albums, artists or genres ECT.

Hi Mikeie -

In JRMC 15, the setting is:

Tools/Options/Startup/Startup Interface/Location

The default is "Start", but you can choose "Audio" instead.

Thanks Hook, just give it it a try on JRMC 14 and I now go straight into the audio page, hopefully this also helps Doctor Jazz as he asked first.

J.River [Media Centre] 14 is a different beast to J.River Music Jukebox - the Free version.

IIRC the Music Jukebox as not been updated in a long time and doesn't support WASAPI. ASIO support is possible but some places it says the Music Jukebox does and other places says it doesn't support ASIO.
