New Kindle

Half the price, better functionality. I'm thinking it's now worth considering. Does anybody have one? Is the six inch screen big enough?

Fraser,
As far as I'm concerned the leather Amazon cover is primarily to reinforce the illusion that you're actually reading a real book while protecting the screen from normal wear and tear. That's why I ordered the basic one. I believe there are more functional, and cheaper, cases available which look like they'll do what you want. Amazon themselves have some. Once I've got mine and see exactly how I use it I suspect I'll be buying one of these for "expedition" conditions
Maybe I'll hold off until Berghaus or The North Face do one.
I think a bit of googling is called for.

I don't think I would buy the 3G version from choice, although presumably I could access my webmail when overseas via the 3G feature.
The case is well made, the reading light is OK, I find it a better reading "experience" when the Kindle is in the case, maybe because it's a bit more book like!
If I were buying this myself I would go for the wifi version and the basic Amazon case. I'm sure that there are other third party cases out there to bullet proof the Kindle. As you say mine was a gift and I'm very pleased with the whole set up.

Chris,
Thank you. I shall do just that.
