New Foos, part 2 (copy control revisited)

Posted by: Andrew L. Weekes on 18 December 2002

I've just had a return call from BMG with regard to my experiences with the new Foo Fighters Disc 'One by One'.

I had experienced skipping problems with this disc in a CD5, and having contacted BMG and tried a replacement, they requested that I return the disc for examination.

What transpires is that the entire UK batch of these discs (you may not have a UK version if bought online) was not supposed to have any copy control technology applied, but an error in the production process caused flawed protection to be applied. Europe releases did have copy control applied.

The entire batch of CD's is being re-manufactured as they are all faulty, hence I will get a new copy as soon as this process is finished, but it may be worth anyone else who has a UK-copy to contact BMG and request a replacement if you are experiencing problems.

BMG UK and Ireland's telephone number is 020 7384 7500, you could ask for customer services. If they are not aware of the problem, ask for Stuart Hale-Brown, who I have been dealing with, and has been very co-operative and helpful.
