Show Music

Have you ever been to a hi-fi show, heard some music and thought yes! I must get that? I haven't.

I've heard lots of things in record shops that I've liked and asked what they were, and subsequently bought.
Including:
Simian, Astrid, SFA plus plenty others.

As for HiFi Shows, I heard Porcupine Tree (Lightbulb Sam!?) a while ago and though yes that's great. Not bought any yet though (mainly due to not seeing any at a reasonable price)

And here's me thinking 'Show Music' meant "Cabaret" and "South Pacific"

In the early nineties Linn were playing a active Isobarik LP12 system and they had 'Qareeb' by Najma Akhtar. One of the most beautiful albums ever and I bought it, and is highly recommended. Dare it say it but one of the best sounds I have ever heard at a show was the Mana room at the old Heathrow Penta in 1996. Naimed LP12 with Naim amps into Briks - they were playing some funky hip-hop at full whack which upset the nerds but I loved it. One of the best sounds I have heard at a show ever (I think they got banned the year after becasue it was too loud!)

'The Motels', from a Linn room with NAP250/Isobariks (so a long time ago...)
Jackson Browne 'Lawyers in Love', after an Absolute Sounds demo, also back in the 80s. Bit of a surprise that...

Damn you Lees. OK I bought it, but I never thought 'Yes!'

Nice to see Mr Tibbs.

Matthew, I've got South Pacific, My Fair Lady, The King and I, Gigi, Oliver and the Sound of Music - all original cast vinyl soundtracks which I was given by a very nice clock dealer (together with tens of 'Wonderful World of Stereo' type things, and what seems to be the entire back catalogue of Herb Alpert) - which is your favourite?

When I was 10 years old some of the songs from 'Carousel' seeped into my young impressionable mind and stuck there. "If I loved you" and "Soliloquy" bring a tear even now.

Have never heard anything other than, When Hell Freezes Over, Rumours and Darkside at any HiFi show; or in a dealers for that matter - these guys sell gear they don't have TASTE.
