Output from an imac - need help please

Posted by: Lee Henley on 04 April 2010

I hooked my imac upto my Dacmagic yesterday for the first time to give it a bit of a play, the dacmagic tells you what the incoming bit rate is via front LED's. I played a track on the mac which had been converted at 48kHz but when I played it back it only came in at 44.1 kHz, how does one get the mac to play at higher rates through a DAC. I used an optical cable out of the headphone socket via a mini toslink converter.

Any help much appreciated

Cheers, just had a look at it the Utility and it seems straight forward to configure. Can you leave the digital out set at 96kHz,or do you have to change it for every type of bit rate that is going to be played?

Cheers

Hi Lee,
i'm not an expert but i think you need for fixing this a SW like Amarra!
Amarra matches automatically and improves sound.

The Amarra looks a nice piece of kit but at $995 I will give it a miss, its a bit out of my price league unfortunately but thanks for the heads up

Can't say that I was impressed with Pure Music. You can download a trial version for free, though.

Nothing, you seemed interested in automatic bit/sample rate changing - iTunes won't do that.

You haven't got it working? It's very good.

It sort-of works for me, but I just can't hear the difference. The other issue is that it would only play one track at a time. Useless. Bought CDs instead.

Don't blame you, fortunately it works fine here and is a considerable improvement sonically.
